Any comments from those who have played this work?

I played it recently, not a whole lot in the tuba part. It's a wonderful piece of music, great to listen to. The tuba part just happens to be a bit sparse. There are plenty of good recordings out there... a handful on iTunes and such. IMO it's a CC tuba piece as you really should fill out the orchestra at times. There is a B above the staff at one point, that's the only thing that I remember being out of the ordinary.

Beautiful music overall, esp if it's a good choir. From the tuba perspective, seemingly a yawner but, as mentioned, the presence is certainly required for the depth of the sonority. Poulenc wrote some good stuff here, just not exciting for the tuba.

I played it over 20 years ago. It's a stunning piece of music, and fun to listen to from within the orchestra. The tuba part provides key characteristic color in important spots, and you will be heard. The part is not technically challenging (else I wouldn't have been able to play it), but it's still quite satisfying.

Hope the group you accompany has a good soprano.

I played it a couple months ago. Works great on F tuba. If you have a conductor that liks the orchestra to be seen and not heard, no use in bringin a big horn.

You know... it was this piece of music that made me buy a tuba mute... I think I've only used it twice since then.
