I use a short bungie cord to suspend the mike above the bell. Plastic tubing protects the bell rim; stretch the cord across the bell; clip the mike to the cord in the center of the bell. This also helps eliminate any "percussion" effects (sounds) as the valves are operated.

Not elegant, but it works.
