MW 2000 Reciever

My MW 2000 has a larger than Euro shank (about .500) Venturi receiver. I guess this is what normally comes on one. Matt Guilford and Alan Baer have told me that they have replaced some of these receivers with the straight 2155 recievers. I would be interested to hear from anyone who has had this operation done to their MW 2000. How did the horn change?
Thanks,
Bud

I plugged in an American Shank mouthpiece, and the response changed drastically (for the better).

PS- Al Baer told me the receiver is that way because Deck designed it to fit his mouthpiece (a bored out 24AW).

Take off your venturi receiver, then REDESIGN the horn...

The 2000 is/was a great instrument, but the venturi slots the notes too much FOR YOU, instead of WITH YOU, which can be an ASSET in certain aspects of playing, but MUCH LESS GOOD in others.

I miss the good aspects of them, but don't AT ALL miss the negative.

Try the receiver switch to the 2155 type, and see how the horn blows FOR YOU for a while, then go back to the venturi, if you think it's wrong.

Or, better yet, put a Dillon Adjustable Gap Receiver on it. It's been done, though I've never played one with the AGR. Anybody?

These horns are great, but I sold BOTH of mine, FWIW.

I like my "budget" 6/4 much better.

Chris, What do you mean by REDESIGN?

Bob, there's really something to using the American shank mouthpieces. They're totally swallowed and it's hard to get one locked in so that it's not loose, but it cleary makes for a more normal blow. I just got my new receiver and will try having it switched next month.

My MMVI Euro fits like it was made for it.
