I just heard the tail end of a live broadcast of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra playing Mahler 7.
Great sound, Randy!

I believe that last movement was supposed to be inspired by Wagner Meistersinger's. I would not have thought it belittles Wagner, as Mahler was one of his disciples.
Mahler 7 is a great piece - one definitely on my wish-list to play.

I was just in NYC a few weeks ago and had a chance to catch the Phil play this....WOW! Absolutely stunning! Always a great piece to listen to at home, but definitely a must-see (and feel) live!

That NY Phil concert broadcast is available on their website through tomorrow (7/13).
Are the Milwaukee broadcasts accessible online in an archive?

I would vote for Randy if there were a post for underrated tuba PLAYERS similar to the post about underrated instruments. He's a really nice guy too. I believe some of Milwaukee's stuff is avilable on itunes?? They're also broadcast on WFMT in Chicago all the time (Sunday's night broadcasts when I was living there). You should check it or better yet....go hear the orchestra live. They sound great and Randy is a great tuba player.

(WFMT also used to broadcast NY Phil concerts on Wednesday nights if I remember correctly. Too bad CSO isn't broadcast live on that station.......)
