Differences between Mirafone 1261 & Mirafone Ambassador

Thanks to all who willingly answered my previous question about what is the 'best' E-flat tuba. There are some E-flats mentioned that I haven't played yet. I'll be sure to give them a try. My current question is,"What is the difference between the Mirafone 1261 and the new Mirafone Ambassador?"

You should contact Richard Murrow who is the most active artist-rep for Miraphone. You can reach him through his website which is here

He plays an Ambassador Eb and can give you the lowdown on both horns.

From
www.miraphone.de, the only compensator is listed as:
Model 1261 Ambassador
So from this I would conclude they are one and the same horn -- unless of course there used to be a 1261 that was NOT an "Ambassador".

Fred I have used a 1261 for 3 years. In my opinion it’s a good all round Eb & one to consider if you like 3 + 1 comp. My understanding is that the 1261 has been rebranded as the Ambassador. There have been several minor tweaks but essentially they are one and the same instrument. That said I have not used the Ambassador so can’t comment on whether the tweaks improve an already good model.
Contact me if you want any more info on my experience with the 1261 and a direct comparison with the Besson 981.

I would be interested reading in your direct comparison of the Miraphone 1261 to the Besson Eb.
I played the 982 for a while and regarded it as the benchmark for Eb's. I've briefly played the Ambassador but am so far removed from Eb's that I couldn't make a comparison.

Both the 1261 and the Ambassador are VERY large 3+1 EEb's. To the naked eye they look the same, but my understanding is that there were some changes made to the leadpipe and in the valve section in the Ambassador. The biggest difference that I can tell in the performance of the 2 horns is that the Ambassador feels more open in general and in particular in the low register. The difference in the low register is significant. I still feel that these are a great choice for a one horn does everything situation. They are extraordinarily versatile. The Ambassador replaced the older 1261 in the line-up. I hope this helps.
