Its been a while since the last installment of HP so here you go.

Recently completed, restoration project with custom reconfiguration. This is/was a 1930s York Band Instrument Co. 4/4+ BBb tuba. It started out in life as a three top-action model 700 and now.... Well....uhhh. Here you go.

Obviously such projects take a good deal of time and equipment to do properly. In order to make it look as stock as possible, I had to fabricate a lot of parts (i.e. braces, branches, mouth-pipe, etc.) from scratch. Mind you, there is no such original York that was made in this exact configuration. I used images of the Yorks that were the property of Mr. Jacobs and the HB-2P to model this horns overall look. Plays very well and still has that great York sound. The new valves are also pretty nice. Hope you all find this of interest.

The valve block and piston assembly was suppied by M-W/ Melton. The slides and braces were constructed by me.

Wow that is excellent.
Seriously, how much does a job like that cost?

I don't think you'll get him to say. However, in the discussion of the 'value of a Holton" and this sort of restoration/customization, the amount $10K came up (plus the original cost of the horn) A lot, yes, but look at what else you could get for that amount and it looks a little more reasonable.
