Better go late at night, bring a shovel, and have a couple of friends as lookout.

Not sure what Marty meant, but anyway.........
I used to live right around the corner from their factory and visiting Schilke is very easy. They may even be willing to show you around the factory if they're in the mood and it's very impressive to see how they hand craft their trumpets. However, realize that they often neglect tuba players as their business is 95% geared towards trumpet players. They do keep a few "tuba extras" not on their website such as the Geib, and Helleburg II F tuba model. However, these would be the only two that you couldn't try out at your local music store. My best advice is to call them first. In all honesty it's probably not worth your trip considering they only have a handful of mouthpieces to try and the trial room is more "trumpet friendly" with low ceilings. Save your gas.

I also visited them back in the 70's in Chicago on Wabash. They even treated us high school kids well. I remember specifically them letting my friend try a gold plated trumpet.

Just can't help reminiscing.

One of the most popular TV shows the Vietnamese like to watch in English is Globe Trekkers. When they showed the program where Justine Shapiro took the Untouchables gangland tour, I think it caused all the locals who watched that to have a whole new idea of what Chicago is.
