Drugs in my leadpipe

This one is too good not to share. I recently purchased on e-bay, in a single lot, a gold-plated Conn Helleburg, plus a Conn sousaphone neckpipe and two tuning bits.

The description was as follows:

UP FOR BID IS A CONN-BELLEBERG TUBA MOUTHPIECE WITH ADDITIONAL REMOVABLE PIECES. THEY ARE ATTACHED TOGETHER NOW, BUT ARE REMOVABLE IF NEEDED. I DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT TUBA PARTS, ALL I KNOW IS THAT WHEN MY DAUGHTER WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL SHE BOUGHT THIS TO START IN THE BAND. IT IS USED BUT IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.

When it arrived, I took it all apart, and set about cleaning it. As soon as I tried to put a snake in the gooseneck, I hit something hard. I looked inside, and a small screen was blocking my way; I gently pried it out with tweezers, and took a whiff; the odor of weed was unmistakable.

I guess when the Seller's daughter quit the band, she found another use for her lead pipe!

Anyway, it's all cleaned up and playing fine now.

When I was in high school, I had a couple of guys try to steal my mouthpiece from my horn during pep band. At first they tried to buy it off me, but when I said no, they tried to take it when I set my horn down. I managed to stop them, but to say the least I was not pleased with them.

Bet it'll be great on the high notes!

With a setup like that you would also need a snack tray on the sousa!

See? All you guys with your scientifically designed and machined mouthpieces can't make anything more relaxing than the good old Helleburg designed by ol' August way back when...

A local high school band director has long complained that his trombone and euphonium mouthpieces keep getting stolen for use as bongs.

I suggested that he purchase some Kelly mouthpieces. Nothing worse than a bong that melts.

When I was in high school ALL the tuba, trombone, and euph mouhtpieces were stolen at one time. This included a Bach 6 1/2 Al that I had puchased on my own.

Long story short : All the pothead drummers stole them and use them to make bongs . Someone put some pressure on them to return them and they were never charged with the theft. Mine smelled so bad of pot I just threw it away and bought a new. Not an easy task for a 15 year old kid with no job . I had to bum around the neighborhood for odd jobs to scrape up the $25.00 .

Hmm. Boy, am I behind -- and I thought the "unfinished" mouthpieces that show up from time to time on eBay, you know, with the bowl finished, but not cut from the base stock, would make a good shot glass.

You don't suppose they got band credit for spending time in the practices rooms, do you?

Oh wait...expelled, I suppose it wouldn't matter

Why mess with the small stuff. Fill a sousa bell with grass and huff right through the mouthpipe. Sounds like something out of a Cheece and Chong movie!

I have heard of things like this that happened in Singapore and Malaysia where drug possession means a summary execution--no questions asked...

The poor recipients got punished!
