Looking for material on how to properly maintain my new Rudy Bayreuth (never having had rotary valves before - and it didn,t come with a manual!) I came across Jeff Funderburk's videos

Being aware that there is often more than one school of thought on such things I thought I would ask if people are generally in agreement with what he says there or if there are some other points I should take into consideration.

The videos are excellent. I've been playing a rotary horn for about 20 months and find the information practical and useful.

1. Your first time through, I would only work on one valve at a time. It will be easy to diagnose a misassembly in case a valve gets installed backwards, for example, and you wonder why your horn doesn't play right.

2. It doesn't hurt to scratch the valve numbers on the unexposed, unfinished portions of the caps and valves. This is an old machinist's and mechanic's trick.

3. Lubricate threads to prevent corrosion and to ease later disassembly. I would caution not to overtighten the screws. No one wants stripped threads.

4. You may want to sketch or photograph your own horn's details before and during disassembly.

5. Use the correct size screwdrivers and allen wrenches. Otherwise the screw heads will become deformed and difficult to disassemble later.
