Just know of the Brass Band of Central Florida , I don't know where they are based , they were looking for a tenor horn player in the past few days , great band directed by a guy called Michael Grassi ( a concussionist by profession I think)

Actually they are in Central Florida (ie. orlando) And Mr. Garassi is the Wind Ensemble Director at UCF. As far as tubas go they are set. subs and sit-ins are welcome though. they are a really great group, but 6 hours is a long way to drive for rehersal.

Tallahassee Winds is a good group. From their website here...

...their director is Dr. Bentley Shellahamer. He was at FSU for many years and a fabulous teacher / director. I think he recently retired from FSU.

Dr. Shellahammer retired from FSU a year ago.
Tallahassee Winds would probably be the best option for you. Also, there is a band called the "campus band" on campus at FSU that allows non-majors to play. I played bass trombone in there one semester and I think it'd be a good experience for someone like yourself who just wants to keep his playing in shape. You can sign up for it as a class if you want. Tallahassee Winds meets every Tuesday evening at (I think) 7:30 and the Campus Band meets every Thursday evening at (I think) 7:30. Both meet in the HMU (Houswright music building) room no. 114. Good luck!
