I concur about the blokoid explanation being great. Especially Joe's finding of the very good illustration is new to me.
However I am in a catch:
My findings in general are, that the larger the instruments, the more pistons get valuable.
And then the most distorting, shapewise, rotors of the multitude of my such ones, those of the King VIIB bassbone, seem to be the most effective ones soundwise.
Where the Rotaxeries after all represent the shape of a 0 (a circle with squeezed sides) the shape of the VIIB rotors mostly look like a vertical rhomboid with the corners cut off.
Again and again I come out surprised, that audible paradises manage to pass through geometrical purgatories.
