Church Euphonium Music

Post by Eric B »

I need recommendations for euphonium solo music suitable for playing in church. I'm a tuba player who doubles on euphonium, so it should be at an intermediate level. Upper range should not exceed the G above the staff. I prefer collections either with accompaniment CD or piano accompaniment. I have purchased two that are pretty good:

1. The Sound of Gospel arr. by Stephen Bulla (Curnow Music)

2. Gloria! arr. by Stephen Bulla (Curnow Music)

Dear Eric,

Follow this link to an arrangement of Pie Jesu I did earlier this year:

http://www.cimarronmusic.com/search.cfm?ID=1220

The .mp3 is of David Werden. I t is a very pretty and not too difficult piece that should work quite well!

You might want to check this website as well:

If you can read treble clef, there are lots of trumpet solos that will probably work for you!

Beautiful! I love Faure. I arranged Sanctus for brass quintet and organ and performed in on my senior recital. It's too bad the organ student got lost!

Douglas Yeo has some great stuff on his sacred trombone CD's. He also lists where to purchase the music.

Have you looked into anything that's on Brian Bowman's CD "The Sacred Euphonium"? I'm sure that's all appropriate...

I'll have to order both of these. I was already going to order the Sacred Euphonium. I heard this is exquisite playing.

Thanks to all who have responded and sent PMs. I'm well on my way. I didn't realize the wealth of literature available.

"The Lord's Prayer" that BobEuph is searching for might be good too!

"red0radio0head" suggested Brian Bowman's CD, "Sacred Euphonium". Good suggestion! I've played more than half of those in church myself. They're all excellent (with organ accomp). I just played "Panis Angelicus" a couple of weeks ago (with organ). You can find this in several keys for voice in many music stores.

"Bless this House" is also good... but I think it goes a bit higher than you're looking for (Ab if I remember right).

Another source would be "www.churchinstrumentalist.com". Just click on 'search' button with nothing entered in the search box first, then you see other choices for what instrument or ensemble. I got a nice arrangement by Dan Marvin of "Jesus Paid it All". This was arranged for "The King's Brass" years ago. I think there's still a sound file of that played by Tim Zimmerman on flugel. This piece sounds nice on euph too (after all, a euph is a bass flugel). AND it's in the range you're looking for.

Here's a direct link to that one if interested:

Jesus Paid it All (trumpet & piano)

Hope this helps.
