Is that the book people who hold an 'official' TubaChristmas try to use? If so, I'd like to get one and practice up a bit. I want to sound good and, if not good, silent on those passages.

If there are any players in the Seattle area who participate in a TubaChristmas, please PM me. I would like to participate this year. It will be my first Christmas playing the tuba.

It is indeed, and on the website is a recommendation that you do practice. I suspect, however, that if you are posting here you already posess sufficient skill to sight read anything you might come across in that book.

Anyone can order the TubaChristmas book but it's a must for those who choose to participate. The price is right for 33 tunes. Even though the copyright police are not likely to haul you away for having a bogus copy, it's not a good idea to show up at TubaChristmas with anything other than an original book.

How do they feel about Sousaphones at Tuba Christmas events. The one that I looked at looks like it is an outside event. It also says gig bags for horns instead of hard cases. I don't have a gig bag for my Meinl Weston, and I would be reluctant to bring it into a crowd anyway. I have some good sousaphones that sound great anyway. Do they frown upon them, or should I bring my 3/4 Lyons BBb. I have a bell front Reynolds recording bass that would work also, but gets kind of heavy if you have to hold it for an extended length of time. Thanks for any reply.

This is a fun event. I would be very upset if anyone was turned away becaue of the style of horn they chose to bring. Sousaphone should be acceptable... as well as bell-front horns. As far as the suggestions regarding cases and gig bags go.... that's probably just a matter of how much space is available. It shouldn't be unusual to be asked to store a case or bag in an out-of-the-way location.

Tuba Holiday Events® are normally very festive in nature, and you will see everything from a sousaphone to a double-belled euphonium to an ophicleide show up.

Typically, rehearsal (if any) is remote from the performance site, which may be outdoors, so I wouldn't worry about the type of horn you choose to bring. Just bring A HORN, and show up ready to have a good time!

I'm fairly new to the Pacific NW and was wondering if Seattle or Olympia, WA, host annual Tuba Christmas? If so, is there a date set for this year's? Thanks in advance.

You can't call it TubaChristmas unless the TubaChristmas organization sanctions your concert. It's a licensed trademark.
