Well, I certainly have no complaints with the low register on my 2040/5, while the medium and high register positively sings.
Unfortunately, I have never had the chance to play a Norwegian Star to compare.

I guess you should have looked for socks or mice in that particular Norwegian Star.
I tried both Oystein-endorsed horns at the Miraphone booth in Frankfurt this year. Both were awesome all over the tested range, which starts somewhere below Bb0 and ends at F4, depending on my current shape. On an Eb-tuba, Bb0 will be the lowest partial Eb + 4th valve.
All notes sounded much better than what I´m doing on my MW46.
Over all, I liked the Star better than the Star-Light due to a fuller sound, but that´s my personal preferance.

The Norwegian Star I played at TMEA was a terrific in the low register. I would aguess that something is amiss with the one you played.

As a Willson 3400 player, I second this!
