I am looking into maybe getting a Yamaha YCB-822 for college.
For those who don't know, It is a CC tuba with the 4 pistons+ 1 rotor configuration.
Anyone have expirience with this particular horn?
Thanks in advance

Tried one about 11 yrs ago at WWBW with the intention of buying it, based on my experience with my Yamaha 621F. Was not impressed with the sound of the horn, although everything else was good. Went home with a (good) Mirafone 1290. A (good) Kalison DS was my second choice. I was also seriously considering a Mirafone 188 going in, but found it a little too brassy at FF. Maybe a goldbrass 188 would have been perfect.

Try out a bunch of horns before you settle on that big Yammie. I think Yammie tubas are spectacular for the most part, but this big CC left me wanting. I think you can do better for the money. Miraphone 1291, 1292, Gronitz, many others...

I agree as far as testing out a bunch of horns. The YCB822 is deceiving in size - the ones I've tried played somewhat "BAT-ish" - a little on the clumsy side.
Don't set your heart on it until you've compared it to other tuba models.
Good luck in your search!!!

I played one for several years and liked it very much. New ones are quite overpriced as compared to other good horns. If you can get a steal,it might be a good option.Better horns can be had for the price of a new 822,IMO...
