does anyone have any info/opinions about this concerto. Does anyone have any recordings of this piece? I know this piece is relatively new, but any info would be appreciated.

The Tuba Concerto by Philip Sparke is edited by ANGLO Music Press and distributed by De Haske. The Concerto was commisioned by Miraphone and dedicated to Marcus Theinert.

The piece was recorded by Markus Theinert with the Deutsche Blaserphilharmonie, Walter Ratzek conducting. The CD is called '' Brass Virtuosi'' on the label Anglo Records (AR 020-3). This CD is also available by De Haske. (www.dehaske.com)

The concerto is divised in 2 movements (Lento/Allegro). It's approx a 13min piece.

The work is a great addition to the ''tuba & band'' repertoire! Fun to play for the soloist as well as for the band. Great colors, very well written! I found the ''lento'' movement a bit too long but it's just my opinion..

Hope these info helps..

If anyone is interested, I put both the Band and Piano accompaniment versions on my site for purchase:

http://www.bvdpress.com/

Piano version is set a special price for a month or so.

I think it is a quite a cool piece.
If you happen to be in Denver last summer, it was played and it was not played well but it went over well with the audience.
