who published Kansas City Dances? I'd think Wingert-Jones, but I had no idea it was ever published. I haven't heard that since it was premiered (I turned pages for the warm-up recital before Steve went to Carnegie.)
Dave wrote some good stuff. What's happened to him, for that matter? I'm so out of touch, it seems...

Steve told me it's published by Alexander Music...which is apparently a part of TRN Publishing, but they don't reflect the piece in their catalog.
We have the band parts here (Steve (Seward for anyone wondering) has played it with TSU's band several years ago). Incidentally, Steve is my teacher. Unfortunately he cannot locate a piano part at this time and the one he had was poor at best.
Good luck to me....it's my jury piece....gonna be weird without piano.
Maybe I can use the band....hmmmmmm

I contacted Mr. Hollsinger about this piece a couple of years ago. From what I remember of the email exchange, the story is thus:
--KCD was published by [insert name of small music company that I can't remember]. Not TRN.
--Music company went belly up roughly 2 months (or thereabouts) after publishing KCD.
--Because of our cutting edge, 21st century copyright law system that puts the interests of creators and users first, the publishing "rights" to the music got (permanently?) locked up in the legal machinery that links bankruptcy law and intellectual property. Sorry I'm not more precise here--I've slept since this exchange took place.
--Mr. H told me he would send me a photocopy of the work to use so long as I didn't distribute it in any way.
--I'm still waiting on that photocopy.
Good luck on obtaining your copy.

Thanks for the help, a2ba4u.....
I figured something like that would be the dealio....
I might get Steve to contact David and see if that works....
Otherwise it might be time to start thinking of alternatives....oh well....time to add to the library...hehehe....
and Bob.....I'll keep you posted....I think it might take some pushing rather than pulling.....

There's one lick in KCD that I use while playing jazz...major scalewise 5-6-7-8-9- 12 5-11 5-10 5-9 8-7-6-b6-5-6-5 8-6-5-6-5-6 (if that makes sense....)
a great lick, anyway. Fun piece, upon hearing it Claude Smith altered the "Ballad and Presto Dance" to add a little more technical stuff. (Both were for Seward's Carnegie recital in um....1981, maybe???)

According to this site, it is TRN. I would give them a call and maybe they could help you out!

Thanks for the info....I tried there before posting (being the conscientious TubeNetter that I am...hehehe), but no go....I tried calling TRN but no answer yet.
Good news though......Steve located his part.
The Ballad and Presto Dance story is great.....the band got the parts right before getting on the bus for the CBDNA performance in Colorado....they spent the bus ride copying out parts....(no Sibelius or Finale in sight...hehehe)....
Good transcript practice, I suppose......

Dr. Holsinger now has 300 dpi .pdf scans of KC Dances sitting in his inbox - so you might try asking him again
