Different Buttons

I've always thought making different types of buttons would be a nice little cottage industry for someone.

Look at the trumpet dork sites. That sort of thing is popular in the trumpet world.

The biggest job of a fingerbuttons (aside from providing someplace to put your fingers) is to regulate the 'down' stroke of the piston. Even though a trumpet fingerbutton might screw in to the stem, it may not have proper clearance on the underside to allow the piston to travel the correct distance.

You might be able to get valve buttons for a Yamaha 641 and put them on your 642. I know that I personally like the flat feel of the buttons on my 641 rather than the curved (convex) design of the 642 buttons. I'm pretty sure they're still available from Yamaha. But then again, there may be enough differences that port alignment could be affected.

I really donÂ´t want to turn this into a spelling-thread, but I disagree with WakinAZ. Having some kind of gadget replace what boils down to a little care is a bad idea, because itÂ´ll make you careless and indifferent to many other things in the long run.

Why bother about intonation, correct fingerings, good breathing and all kinds of good stuff if some of these could be fixed using some electronical gadget in a studio setting ?
ItÂ´s the same with language, of which spelling is only only one facet.

As to the original subject:
all it takes is thorough measurement if the buttonsÂ´ dimensions.
Why not make up buttons of your own ? I could imagine cool wooden designs, nice to the touch and pleasing to the eye.

Judging by the severity and number of spelling mistakes eg227 makes, I would say he is beyond the help of exercising "a little care". He might indeed have a learning disability. Agree on gadgets not being the best solution for most people.

I've been cringing as I read his posts for a while now, so we might as well get this first wave of spelling police out of the way. It was only a matter of time until someone flamed him. At least we're being nice about it and trying to help.
