Has anyone done a side-by-side with one of these and a Firebird?

You took the words out of my mouth, Mike. I've heard great things about both, especially the Firebird. I like the price of the 653 though.

I've played the firebird and I liked it enough. I didn't like it as much as quite a few other people though.

There was someone on here who has done a side by side and said the 653 was either equal or better...which is all opinion anyway. But we shall see. My have to wait for credit cards to clear, and then I'll call up, place the order and itll be shipped to my house...and then I will be letting EVERYONE know.

:P

That sounds both very good and awfully cruel at the same time! :D

it was purely the fact that, that was the only content of the email. Of course, it told me everything I needed to know right??

About 20 seconds ago I talked to Watt Walters and put in my payment for the CFB. Matt was kind enough to play me some of the horn over the phone!! :P

It was QUITE in tune...and had a nice sound even over the phone....(from what I could hear) and he was very impressed with it. So....it should be at my home 2 or 3 days!!!

Brooke, I think you're in for a treat. One of the things I REALLY like about mine is the response. It responds so easily, it seems as if I merely need to think about the note and it pops out. . . even in the "dreaded" low range. Keep us posted. BTW-did you get the Cerveny case with it?

there has been a lot of posts about being able to afford the cases if you get the horn..hahah and I couldn't shell out the additional 500 for the case.

I did however purchase an alteri gig bag that'll be here in 2 weeks or so.

THANKFULLY the horn is being shipped carefully and NOT by...... **S F**EX or other such carriers.

So it will be in perfect conditition when I recieve it...now I'll just have to be EXTRA careful until I get the case....

in other words........the cerveny will get my bed whereas I will be sleeping on the sofa.... :P

Fantastic! It's always a real bad sign when a salesman tells you that a tuba is a bad one! Especially if he's selling it to you.

Good thing Matt has established good credibility as a tuba dealer so you really can trust his opinion.

Enjoy that tuba!

It's an EVEN worse sign when the salesman won't tell you anything positive about the horn and ignores negatives..

Did you custom order the alteri gig bag? From whom (if you don't mind saying)? I'll be putting my Miraphone 188 up for sale here in the next couple weeks, and was going to buy a Unitec case and gig bag for the little Cerveny F. I was wondering who already has the right measurements for the horn so I wouldn't have to go through that. It always makes me nervous - the possibility of not getting the measurements just right.

Matt at Dillon's went ahead and gave them the correct measurements for me. So it'll be custom fitted. Just call Dillons and he Matt can give you a correct fit.

I am playing the new Cerveny........what a beautiful little bugger.

From the.....15 mintues I've been playing already....WOW!!!

Sound is nice...it is very easy to play and most every not is within 5 cents intonation!! So I just have to set the slides and really...I won't have to move them much.

The low C is quite nice. It didn't "pop out" as much as I was expecting, but it is easier than most F horns I've played!

This horn easily compares with the Firebird....I'll write more and the horn and I get to know eachother further.....

toodles!

It appears that Cerveny's quality has improved- good for us!! I'm glad that what I've been saying all along about this little horn is true for you as well, Brooke. Post some sound bites and/or pictures when you can. ENJOY!!!

The horn does feel rather light, but that is probably because it is a pretty small horn. I can tell by squeezing a bit, that it isn't exactly thin metal..which is good since I don't have a case as of yet... (a few weeks to get one in).

Right now I use a Hell. 2b but that's because it's the "smallest" MP I have right now. I'm going to take a trip to WWBW probably sometime and try different ones out after I'm comfortable with the horn.

But man, the horn can really honk with the bigger mouthpiece.

Good news as well. Other members of my studio tried the horn last night and "only one or two notes that are out of tune (but can be fixed with alternate fingerings) and a great low register"....

SO!, definetely a steal of a horn.
