schilke 60 is what was recommended to me. The rim is a bit narrow but still a good mp IMO. Also, very popular which means you can probably find one for a good used price. They did make a newer version of it (i believe its called the symphonic 60) that has a wider rim, but good luck finding one used because they are still relatively new.

Schilke 60 might be a tad big for the horn. Most use a Schilke 59 instead.

The Yamaha 58 is similar to the 1-1/2G. This would be a good starter. Or if you want to go bigger, I also have a normal 59 I could sell also. Bach 1-1/4 G or GM aare similar to a 59. The rim is a little different shape but very similar in size.

The Doug Yeo is a heavier mouthpeices in the Schilke 60 size range.

I have bought a number of the Marcinkiewicz mouthpeices over the past few weeks and enjoy their quick response.

Be careful not to go too big. You still want to sound like a trombone. And your section mates most likely have smaller horns so you want to try to blend with them as much as possible. Many tuba players figure since they play a tube they can handle a larger bass bone mouthepice, but it is a totally different animal. (I used to subscribe to this school of thought myself, which is why I am selling off my larger mouthpeices!)

Does your low brass instructor at the college or any other students, have any mouthpieces you can try? Start with a 1-1/2G and see what you think. Work with it for a half semester or so, so you can really learn to focus in on it, before you just try to go for the largest mouthpiece possible.

If you want to spend a few bucks, you can't go wrong with the Griego's - anything from 1.5 to .75 won't be crazy big.

You've gotten a lot of good suggestions in this thread for mouthpiece selection criteria and possible choices. I would suggest considering Ken K's Shilke 59 with the throat bored out to a 60 size. My main Bass Bone mouthpiece is a 59 with a 60 throat, a slightly deepened cup and slightly sharper rim. I love it, and have been using it for about 25 years. It has a nice full sound with a good attack that blows freely and isn't tubby sounding. I've used it on a Holton TR-181 and a Getzen 3062 AFR, and it's worked very well on both horns. At $25, this could be a really good choice.
