Contact Humes and Berg. I BELIEVE (remember, you are reading this on TubeNet--take the with the appropriate amount of salt) that they can make tuba-friendly models of any design they carry. Presumably, this kind of customization will run on the extreme northern end of free and probably won't be quick.

Since you live in Chicago, I'd find a way to pay them a personal visit to inquire:

Humes & Berg Mfg. Co., Inc. World Headquarters
4801 Railroad Avenue
East Chicago, IN 46312

Of course, you could also go the homebrew route and just wander around Lowes or Home Depot for a few hours and make your own.

Hmm. A Harmon mute for tuba. Yeah, that's it! Especially with the tube pulled part way out! Yeah, that's it! :P

I seem to remember reading about/hearing that Howard Johnson used a toilet seat with a handle for plunger-esque effects with Charles Mingus' band.

Ah -- nah, won't go there. Can't get back in this lifetime.
