I believe Daryl was a student at Indiana University when I was there studying with Harvey. I hung out on Harvey's Tubaranch from Jan. - Apr. 1974. I also believe I remember that Daryl graduated from IU and went right to Italy to play in an orchestra.

Daryl is a Kentucky boy -- Frankfort area, if memory serves. Graduated HS in '73(?), studied with Harvey Phillips at IU. Been over in Italy for a looong time. Last time I saw him - he probably wouldn't remember - he, Bob Bryant and I were talking old All State Band times at UK, and about profs missing classes, and he was trying to sell somebody's Mirafone Eb. Not a great horn, as I recall, but the first Eb rotary valve tuba I had ever played. And of course I was always awed by Daryl.
I think he and Vince Simonetti were pretty good friends - probably still are. I know Vince used to push those Kalisons pretty hard.
