Other than the obvious tuba retailers (such as tuba exchange, WWBW, 1800 usa band.com, and such) Where are your favorite places to buy tubas?

I am looking for a more "structured retailer". I have heard of scams off of Tubenet...

I have been running this website since about 1994 or 1995. I can't ever recall anyone being "scammed" through a sale they setup here. Perhaps it has happened, but hard to believe no one would have contacted me in an effort to get their money back.

There have been plenty of other problem children for other reasons, but I can't recall off the top of my head any issues with people doing transactions.

Nevertheless you still need to be astute.

To be honest, if you are looking for a new horn, PLEASE have a gander at some of the TubeNet Sponsors first. They really help keep this site solvent and they carry a wide range of stuff from used St. Petes all the way up to the brand new YamaYork.

If you are looking for used, then the absolute best deals are had in the TubeNet For Sale area. Lots of diverse horns go through there at pretty good prices. I have sold 3 horns through TubeNet. I also bought my MW 2000 from longtime sponsor Baltimore Brass.

When it came time for me to buy my first tuba, I ended up buying one from this site: a York Master 3/4 BBb off of the For Sale page. Buyer and seller (fpoon) were both pleased. When it comes time for my next tuba (soon, I hope) I plan to check out the site sponsors, most likely some in the Seattle area, since that is the easiest place for me to get to.

Be patient, and find exactly what you want!

Most of the "scams" you may see on TubeNet are ebay scams that are brought to light here. This is a small, tight, vocal community. If you had any concerns about sellers, asking around here would deflate any suspicions (assuming the seller is not a new member with 3 posts.)
FWIW, some of the most obnoxious posters here are also some of the most honest buyers and sellers - food for thought

Nah, I'm just a "second tier" tubenetter. I was thinking of guys with British nicknames, or named after large mammals or Western icons, for example. I could never hope to attain their legendary status.

We haven't yet a big reputation for tubas, but we import Gronitz, Alexander, and Miraphone tubas into the US, and also carry a few from Yamaha and Josef Lidl. We usually have at least 15-20 tubas in stock, all pro models. Los Angeles area.
