Question about steel mouthpieces

Post by The Jackson »

I have a question about steel pieces that's been rocking in my head for a while.

What is used and how are stainless steel mouthpieces stamped or otherwise marked? Why can't they be engraved like brass?

I do believe they can be engraved, but it must be tougher, due to the steel. My Bora and Bayamo are both engraved, but difficult to read, as the engravings are quite small (and not very deep into the metal).

I'm sure Ivan Giddings has a good answer to this question.

Just about any material can be stamped or engraved but the laser markings that some manufacturers are using are a heck of a lot cheaper to apply.
