TubaChristmas--Philadelphia

We had TubaChristmas today in Philly and it was a pleasure! No blasting fools, some serious musicianship, superb direction from Jay Krush and a fine performance from some 100 players in the Commonwealth Plaza of the Kimmel Center. And, surprisingly, not a single Sousaphone. The audience really got into it, singing along in full voice and the ensemble worked hard to make it a noteworthy show. If you all get a chance to attend one, you owe it to yourself to go.8)

Funny you should show that group shot--they cropped the right side of the picture right between the guy with the blue hat and me! So much for my moment in the sun! One thing about the event, though: Tubas need MORE room than do euphoniums! The tuba chairs were literally touching each other's sides all the way across the stage, while the euphs were free to move about down on the floor level. Can you say tight? But we had a good event nevertheless. 8)

My son and I attended Pittsburgh's Tuba Christmas, also on Saturday December 1st. I'll get some photos posted tonight, and put up a thread on Pittsburgh.

Ah, but what do "unidentified female tuba players" know about serious musicianship anyway? 8)

Wow, lighten up Chief, it's just the tuba and Tuba Christmas.

Geez, you would think it was world peace, brain surgery, and pinpoint bombing all wrapped up in one shiny brass, or laqcuer, piston, or rotar, German, or American, Bass or Contrabass, West Coast, East Coast, World Class sound or something.

That was light, Chuck! Also called "tongue in cheek". Or, am I incorrect in my identification of that "unidentified female tuba player" as a certain player in the Phila.Orchestra? 8)
