Sidey SSHII ?

I own a Schilke SHII and absolutely love it and was wondering if any one has any feedback on the Sidey stainless steel version of it for comparison.

If you're looking for a good helleberg-esk stainless mouthpiece you might want to look at some of the Loud or the Giddings and Webster. I use the Giddings and Webster. Mr. Giddings is a great guy with great customer service... so I'd give those a look!

What i am seeing is alot of people not realizing there are five sidey versions and one is a ShII so i want feed back on that.

You have been extremely kind in your words about both me and the SSH Mouthpieces and I appreciate it. I am flattered to be included in the same sentence with Ivan Giddings, Joe Murphy, Dave Houser and Jim Kelly. They are all are classy guys who care about the mouthpieces we each produce while making sure that our friends and colleagues in the tuba world are taken care of in the same manner we would want to be treated ourselves.

As has been mentioned, the SSH-II is not related to the Laskey or the Schilke II in any way. Those are each wonderful mouthpieces which I have in my own collection, but were actually designed to offer a modified original Helleberg by rounding out the rim and softening the rim bite that some people had problems with on the original early Hellebergs. My designs have tried to stay true to the original Helleberg flatter rim and bite that seems to offer more flexibility and articulation. The problem area with the original was that to gain those traits you gave up endurance but stainless steel really has improved that in how much better the mouthpiece feels against the lips.

With the exception of using a similar early design outer shell to the SSH classic, the SSH-II is very different mouthpiece from the other 2 models. It has a much steeper although slightly shallower funnel , a much more open throat and has a smaller inner diameter both in the funnel and the rim. The rim is designed to have the same bite and flat contour as the SSH original with the same rim width but in a narrower inner diameter. It gives me even more control on my larger CC and a cleaner direct sound on the horn that works great with my brass quintet and also sections of orchestral pieces where the tuba needs to cut through with a more concentrated sound. I have been able to flip out mouthpieces in the middle of pieces to get a different sound and had no problem going back and forth even with the size difference because the “feelâ€
