uncut mouthpieces?

I asked a while ago about a drum corps mouthpiece, and the feedback was great. The corps has told me to get a Helleberg (they don't care what brand). One of the band instructors in my school district suggested an uncut mouthpiece (apparently they make these...the bowl is cut but not the rim...or something like that) Pros and cons of an uncut mouthpiece? Where could I get one?

sounds like they mean one of the heavyweight mouthpieces. Some appear to just be a solid cylinder of metal with a shank attached. I'm sure some of the guys in drum corps right now can tell you specific brands. I have a friend in Cavaliers that uses a mouthpiece similar to what (it sounds like) you are talking about. I believe that Santa Clara Vanguard A corp is requiring their contra line to play on PT-50+ (heavyweight model of the PT-50). Seems a number of the top corps are getting on board with these heavier mouthpieces. If you are looking for the straight cylinder looking mouthpiece in a helleberg design, Either the Ensemble or Orchestral Tony Clements mouthpieces would fit the bill depending on how big you want it. The Orchestral is huge, while the ensemble is probably closest to the standard helleberg. Another option in the "shot glass" style is the Jet Tone R&S, which is described to be a helleberg cup. There are others that look like this but these are the two I can think of off hand.
