Official press release from BIS:

Baadsvik releases yet a new solo CD on BIS. This time with the Swedish Wind Orchestra and conductor Christian Lindberg. BIS CD 1625.

Tuba concerti by Fredrik Högberg, Boris Diew, Daniel Nelson and Fnugg Blue by Baadsvik/Giske.
Øystein Baadsvik, tuba; Swedish Wind Ensemble / Christian Lindberg Leonard Bernstein: Prelude, Fugue and Riffs for solo clarinet and jazz ensemble. Øystein Baadsvik / Svein H. Giske: Fnugg Blue for tuba and wind orchestra (guest soloist: Christian Lindberg, trombone). Boris Diev: Concerto for Tuba and Wind Orchestra. Mark-Anthony Turnage: A Quick Blast for wind, brass and percussion. Fredrik Högberg: Trolltuba for tuba and wind orchestra. Daniel Nelson: Metallëphônic Remix for tuba and wind ensemble
This is carefully picked music with a message. Högbergs Troll Tuba is based upon a Norwegian fairytale about the Troll and the three Goats. Oystein alternates between actually telling the story and playing the tuba. The orchestra follows up with playing and spoken comments. It all leads to a chocking twist at the end...
Diew's tuba concerto was written for Baadsvik in 1996. Diew is a professor in composition at the Moscow Conservatory. He claimed that this concerto for tuba and wind band is the most complicated solo piece he has ever written. "The music is warm, moving and unmistakably Russian." Oystein Baadsvik.
Daniel Nelson's tuba concerto Metallephonic was written for the Nordic Chamber Orchestra and Baadsvik. According to composer Nelson, who was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA, the idea to the music was born when he was listening to Beethoven on headphones. Through Beethoven's music some strange interference emerged. It was simply Daniels neighbor playing Back to Black by ACDC loudly on his stereo. It was this peculiar mix of styles and sounds that gave Mr Nelson the inspiration to write the tuba concerto Metallephonic. Anders Högstedt has made an excellent instrumentation approved by the composer. Finally a composition by Baadsvik, Fnugg Blue.

The CD is available in fine music shops in more than 45 countries, as well as in on-line shops. List of distributors:
