Miraphone 188 CC Tuba Owners & Observations

I own a Miraphone 187 and I really am happy with it. Is the 188 just like its big brother in a different key? I have heard great things about the 188 over the years, and I would like to try one sometime. If a 188 plays like my 187, I can see that a 188 would be in my future. Please let me know of your observations.

I have played both quite extensively. I think as a general observation, they do look like the same horn design in two different keys. I also used the 187 5-valve version. Having said that, the really terrific thing about the 188 is the quicker response. Hard to go wrong with a 188 as your main, do-it-all horn. Try a bunch and find the horn you like.

I just bought a used one a couple of months ago. It is quickly becoming one of my favorite instruments to play. The sound is good the intonation great. And with th new(ish) whole step 5th valve, it's a good back-up to my Willson3050 CC.

As a tuba novice, I am confused by the Mirafone designations. As much as I have searched tubenet for stuff, I've never come across a player's guide to Mirafone tubas as expressed by model numbers. I've played a couple of Mirafones in my brief tuba career, but all I know is they were BBb horns.
Just wondering...

I apologize for hijacking the thread.
Now, having said that, thanks all!
Now...back to our regularly scheduled topic.

Having owned a 186 CC and a 187 BBb, I would say that the 187 is more like a slightly larger version of the 186 BBb, rather than a BBb version of the 188. The wrap is more open than the 188. In fact I bought a Cronkhite 188 gig bag and the 187 would not fit.
