Yamaha 621 main tuning slide stop ideas

Last weekend the main tuning slide fell out of my 621 (again.) I was pulling my 3rd valve slide out to drain it and hooked the main slide with my glove. This slide has worked free and fallen to the floor while playing too. (The horn is really sharp unless I have it way out there.) So I'm wondering if anyone has a clean slide stop idea that I may be able to use. Photos would be great. I'm a machinist and I can fabricate pretty much anything, I just need some ideas.
Thanks so much.
Chris.

Before doing any involved modifications, have you tried...

1) A thicker slide grease?
2) Manually "tweeking" or flexing the slide?
3) a different mouthpiece to see if that may be the source of the intonation issues?

Nothing so high-tech:

How about some black woven fishing line that keeps it connected to the horn, easy to take out, but won't let it fall to the floor if it does come out!?

Le Vere,

I've done exactly this with a Yamaha 381 Eb slide. Since string can be obtained in a variety of colors, you could either try to conceal it (dark), or have it blend with the color or your horn, I suppose.

I suppose you could do the same sort of thing as people do with their 1st valve slide stops -- a thin metal rod, usually threaded I think, with a nut to determine how far out the slide can be pulled. This rod would have to be attached to the slide somehow, and be routed through some sort of ring or tube with the end that extends out through this having the nut screwed onto it. I've seen several of these from time to time -- does anyone have a picture?

Cheers,

Vincent Bach use slide stoppers on the main and 3rd slides of their non-lightweight trumpets.

This HUGE file (8MB+) has a good view of such mechanism on page 17 on the 3rd slide of a cornet:

Found this photo in the For Sale section of this board:

It is a custom stop on the first slide of a Yamaha YEP-321 euphonium.

I'm surprised no one so far has mentioned the quickest, simplest, and cleanest solution: take the horn to a tech and have him expand the diameter of the problem slide so it actually fits the receiver.

Any competent tech should be able to do this.

The slide can actually be spread apart a fraction, no sizing required. It takes about 5 seconds.

WARNING:
If you've never done it, DON'T!!!
