A friend having a clear out gave me an old Winter 1973/4 edition of Sounding Brass magazine. I was interested to see these pictures of John Fletcher which are new to me, so thought I would share!

Thank you very much for sharing. I really enjoyed the photos By the way, do you know if the "Meinl" tuba in the first picture is the "Meinl Weston" or is it other Meinl?

Thanks much for posting these. John was one of the best if not the best musician to ever wield a tuba!

Bonafide quote from one cellist to another cellist in the LSO at the time Fletch was their tubist-"Everybody knows that John Fletcher is the finest musician in this orchestra".

I'm not certain, but that looks like a Rudolph Meinl horn to me.

The tuba in question is a 5/4 Rudolf Meinl.

It is a Rudolf Meinl - he say so in the accompanying article which incidentally is one of those reprinted in the book "John Fletcher - Tuba Extraordinary" http://www.johnfletcher-tuba.co.uk/thebook.html (but without the pictures)
