In my opinion the Beversdorf Sonata is one of the greatest works available for a young musician.

I played this piece in High School for a few auditions and festivals. Still to this day I have some pretty strong memories of developing rhythmic and expression abilities while learning the sonata.

As a teacher I use this piece with my students quite a bit and I think it will always be one of my favorite works! The slower lines in the first movement and the second movement are really gorgeous! And if you need a little help counting ties and syncopated rhythms... the first movement will be quite helpful!

I would strongly recommend this work to any aspiring young player or teacher out there!

I echo Mike's sentiments, totally.

In addition, the work really suite a young player who hasn't developed a real high range. I did this work as a freshman and built a program around it. It's a big enough piece for an aspiring tubist for just such a purpose. (...and worth having in your library. Just buy it, man!)

My teacher was a student of Beversdorf and I happened to be working on it when he came to our school to play with the band. He gave me a tape of the piece and was a nice helpful person.
