So, I am fixing some Tilapia on the grill with a nice lemon/chilipowder marinade and come into the house for a cold one. As the fish has a couple of minutes until it needs to go on, I flip through the channels and come to Turner Classic Movies in time for on of the "One Reel Wonders". Here's where it gets interesting:
The short is called "Bars and Stripes" a Tabloid Melodrama.
The Composer of the Music is David Stern
It centers around a "hot" band from the 30's that is trying to get a national radio contract and, through some contrived circumstances, ends up in jail without their strong link: THEIR TUBA PLAYER, JOHNNY. Johnny gets into jail and all is well and Johnny gets the rather well-endowed female lead who happens to be the singer in the band. The soundtrack is wall-to-wall tuba and played very well. On the film, Johnny plays a 14K Sousaphone. The short was filmed in 1936.
Never can tell when you are going to run across something interesting. BTW, it was an RKO short.
Cheers,
Chuck
