Quick Conn Sousie Question

Post by schleifdog »

Okay all you Conn experts!

What other bells would fit a 20K body?

I have heard that 38K's work. Is this true? Anything else?

And might be preferable. A lot of the souzys have a 24 inch bell instead of the 26. More focused sound without any less breadth, and a whole lot easier to navigate with, especially through doorways and such in and out of the band room and on and off the parade trailer. (What?! You didn't seriously think I actually march anymore, did you?!) :P

Other than the stock 20K bell, 38K would probably be the most commonly available bell to fit a 20K which has the c. 7.25 in. ID bell collar vs. the c. 6.25 in. collar of a 14K/32K. I guess the larger fiberglass bell for the fiberglass version of the 20K (22K) would also fit.

Besides having owned a Conn souzy, I also refer to this thread a lot: viewtopic.php?t=22316&start=0&postdays= ... sousaphone, esp. Dave Hayami's comments. Probably the easiest bell to find for a 20K is a 20K bell, since the 20K is still in production.
