I have been looking at the part. An audition piece if ever there was one.

This must challenge, or exceed Vaughan Williams 4 as the most difficult orchestral tuba part.
Can anyone suggest a good recording of Elektra? Particularly regarding the tuba playing.
Thanks.

The Boston Symphony recordered it in the the mid-80s with Hildegard Berhens in the title role. Chester Schmitz played contrabass trombone and Warren Deck played tuba. Very good, very scary.

Salome and Wozzeck aren't any walk in the park, either.

I heard a snippet of this recording several years ago and you just reminded me that I need to buy it. Talk about a low brass dream team!
