Why this piece hasn't shown up on auditions is beyond me. Great piece and a real work-out. It is still public domain, so getting a part will require you to be in an orchestra that rents it and plays it or ask someone here if they have a copy of the part. Good call, real nice recording, too.

The bass trombone playing in that recording is absolutely insane, particularly in "St. Michael the Archangel".
St. Michael must have been a badass in Respighi's eyes...
edit: The Amazon sample doesn't do the group any justice- the CD is very worth your efforts.

It's another one of those Respighi parts where the meaty tuba part is doubled in the organ pedals. You can be making the broadest, most wonderfully-projected sound imaginable, and the organist will waste you with his little toe. A shortcoming of an otherwise stellar orchestrator (same thing in Fountains).
That said, at an audition, no-one hears the organ, so ALL the notes have to be there. Tough!

Pete Norton (The bass bone player from Cincinnati) is a badass.
