Hello: I was given an old Eb tuba that was in the basement of our church. The family friend that gave it to me said the gentleman that previously owned the horn has been dead for over 30 years. However, I have no idea what the model is. I could not locate a serial number either. The horn has very elaborate etchings on the bell and seems to silver with a lacquer interior of the bell. Also says made in Elkhart, Indiana C.G. Conn Ltd. Any ideas or even where to locate a serial? I am just curious as to how old this instrument is. Thanks!
Justin

I have one similar in appearance to this one. If I knew the bell size, I would be able to tell you a little about the horn. I am surprised that you can not find a serial number. This is important because with a Conn of this age, that would almost certainly tell you the date of manufacture (even the month). It would also help if you had the rest of the slides for it, especially the tuning slide so we could see if it were a duplex slide. The horn I have, with a 21 inch bell, was made in 1914 and has a duplex slide. I also have had an older, 1912 top valve, horn with s similar sized bell and a duplex slide. The 4 valve version of these horns is really quite a find; the three valve versions are nice, functional (with all the parts) and fun to play but not especially valuable nor are the really great horns, IMHO.

This is pretty easy to ID as a Conn Monster Eb. I have the top action version. This is a 20J (older model designation).
Does it have valves? If not, you'll just have to give it to me
