I am playing the Gregson Tuba Concerto with orchestra in a couple months and the concert manager has asking me if I can help with notes on the concerto for the concert programmme.
Obviously I know a certain amount about it, but can anyone point me to a source of information on the concerto?
Thanks!

Hi Peter,
It was not a perfect performance, but was very well received - I had to come back on stage for the applause three times! I was told the kids in the audience (of which there was quite a few) were entranced more than anything else in the concert. I was touched when one afterwards came and asked me to autograph his programme - felt like a celebrity
Having now done both the Vaughan Williams and Gregson, I think the latter is the more demanding. My stamina was certainly starting to flag by the last movement!
It was recorded, so if you drop me a PM with your email address, I will happily send you a copy to have a listen.

Glad to hear it went well, J. Out of curiosity, which horn did you use?

In the end I used my Melton (M-W) 2040/5 Eb. I did seriously consider playing on my Neptune CC and practiced on that for a couple weeks, but my rehearsal accompanist - a fine musician whose feedback I value, thought it had better definition on the Eb, so I went with that.

Amen. Long ago I bought a copy hoping to program it someday with a local ensemble. I managed to get fairly solid on the 1st movement, but eventually concluded that to reach the point of playing the whole mehgilla acceptably probably meant quitting my day job. Hats off to you, Jonathan.
