"In Freundschaft", anyone?

Does anyone on this board have any experience with Karlheinz Stockhausen's piece "In Freundschaft, für Tuba (F-Tuba bevorzugt)"? I'm looking to buy the score, but I'd like to know what I'm getting into, first. It's the solo piece that he wrote for several different instruments, with one of them luckily being the tuba. Thanks.

This is an extremely esoteric piece. If you are playing this on a recital make sure you include some "theatrics"....especially in that section near the beginning where you have to play the same two notes about a hundred times in a row faster and faster.

Probably the most difficult section is the fast, leaping trills near the end, but nothing is impossible technically. However, it is a piece that uses integral serialism, so following everyone of Stockhausen's little instructions is a considerable challenge. The score also says that you need to play it from memory! Good luck with that...

In my opinion......

I thought this was an ok piece, but in the end it just wasn't worth all the work that I would have had to invest to perform it. There's definitely more interesting unaccompanied stuff out there.
