Good comments.

I would also point out if you want to perform the Halsey Stevens to find a very good pianist who is solid rhythmically. There are some tricky interactions between the tuba and the piano. It's a great piece for both the soloist and the audience.

Good Luck!

The Halsey Stevens Sonata was the first solo I ever played on F tuba. It lays well on an F, but is an equally-good workout on either F or CC. It is one of my favorites.

bass trombone piece?

Hate to be a wet blanket, but it has never done much for me. Kinda boring to listen to, really, IMO. It was almost a rite of passage for bass trombonists for a while, though, at least the ones at U of KY when I was there.
