Hi everyone,

I wanted to let you know about a recording my colleagues in the trombone section of the Pittsburgh Symphony and I have made which has just been released on the Albany label. "From the Back Row" is an album of works for low brass section, including chamber music for low brass quartet (original compositions, as well as arrangements), and some standard orchestral excerpts. Selections include the Dubensky Concerto Grosso, Tomasi Etre Ou ne pas Etre, and Hindemith Morgenmusik, as well as an amazing arrangement of Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor by Pierre Beaudry of the Montreal Symphony. Complete information about the CD is available at the Albany website: http://www.albanyrecords.com/Merchant2/ ... t_Count=22. While you're at the Albany site, check out all the other great brass recordings available on that label!

Also, we will be performing many of these selections and a lot of additional excerpts on Saturday March 15 at 10AM at the Eastern Trombone Workshop sponsored by the U.S. Army Band at Fort Myer, VA. More information here: http://www.usarmyband.com/trombone/index.html

Best wishes,

--CK

I received my copy of From the Back Row yesterday and can say that Craig and his colleagues in Pittsburgh have come up with a real winner here. This CD is another addition to the fine tradition of low brass section recordings available commercially. The sound and blend they achieve is truly inspiring and shows what hard work and dedication to the art can achieve. The selection of music on the CD is really wonderful as well. It runs the gamut from Dubensky to Tomasi, from Bach to Bruckner - not to mention that the varied styles they showcase is a real treat to the ear.

This disc is a must buy!

What a great CD! I love the Bach, and especially the really solid interpretation of the Tomasi. Great musicianship all around, and I love the sound that you're getting, Mr. Knox! Should be a welcome addition to any low brass players library.

Another endorsement for this disc. Dittos for the blend, balance, sound and style exhibited by all 4 members of this group. Oh, and precision and polish. FANTASTIC playing.
