Well... when you get second to last in state there aren't any articles like this for you.
I feel like I play bad now
He did play well;
the article says he got outright first though.

I thought the same thing, but didn't really want to say anything, since I think its really awesome that there is an article at all about him.
I'm thinking that he came in 2nd or 3rd overall, since generally the 1st chair picks the Symphony, and sometimes the 2nd chair will pick the Philharmonic. The article repeatedly mentioned that he made 1st chair, and I think the title was even 1st Chair. But he was 1st Chair of the Symphonic Band, which is quite accurate. The article I guess was truthful, from a particular point-of-view.
BTW, congrats on the article for your student. Any kind of media exposure is great!

If you made all-state in Texas, it's pretty unlikely that you play bad(ly). Let's also face the fact that there are few articles about tuba players.
