I got a Miraphone 186. The CC one. It came with a TU-21, and it plays with awesome with it. I got my tax return back, and am thinking of getting a jet tone mouthpiece, keep the TU-21 or maybe get a TU-23 for solo play, but use the Jet Tone for band playing. And ideas how my Tuba will take the Jet Tone. I'm really thinking of getting the Helleberg Heavy II, Gold. And ideas, thanks.

So, why change at all?

I guess so, the hype of it. What do (mainly for people who play on 186 CC modles but I'll take any advice) think of the TU-23? I have the TU-21 but I've not found any one else on that Tuba with it. The others have the TU-23. Is that a good investment?

The '23 (aka C4) has a great rep, but the MOST important thing is for you to try one before you buy, and see what YOU think on YOUR horn.

What the guys above said. When I was in grad school, I really enjoyed playing a 186 with a C3 (the older designation of the TU21). Now, all these decades later, I want just a little larger cup diameter: 1.28 rather than 1.26. So I have the curry instead. But way back then, I also got such good results out of the C3 that the chair of the department asked if I wanted to change grad schools to tuba performance. For whatever reason, I politely declined.

Change only if you have a specific embouchure or intonation reason, after consultation with someone experienced, like I did asking Matt @ Dillons who gave me the Curry recommendation when I needed a mouthpiece that I could control breath better.

I like the Jet R&S TUHH (NOT the II). Even though the inner diameter is slightly less than the II, the cup depth and throat is bigger, and it plays quite a bit bigger than the II. I don't much care for the II. My face and horns have always gotten along well with the TUHH.

I've used the TUHH, the R&S heavyweight copy of the Conn Helleburg, with my 186, though mine is a Bb, not a CC. I've been very happy with it for the past couple of years. Compared to the original Conn, it seems to slot a bit better, especially in the upper and lower ranges.

I've got a Miraphone C-4 also. I use it for quintet and solo stuff, but not large ensembles. It's very lively and responsive, but it takes a lot of attention to keep it in contol; it wants to splat and overshoot harmonics if I'm not careful.
