I know there are excerpt books, but I was wondering if there are any books that contain complete parts. In the horn world there are several of these usually collected by composer. I'm really hoping there is something similar to this in tuba. Because I like putting on a recording and playing along.

For that matter, complete band parts would be great also.

There are two major choices for complete parts that partially overlap but are still worth having. One is a series called The Tuba Player's Orchestral Repertoire, compiled by Abe Torchinsky. There were originally 17 volumes. These are complete parts with up-front notes on performance by Mr. Torchinsky. Encore Music Publishers has volumes 1, 2, 3, 4, 16, and 17. Most of the remaining volumes were published by Jerona Music Corporation and are harder to find. There were two volumes of the works of Shostakovich that are no longer available because of a copyright treaty with Russia, but they occasionally come up on the secondary market. The Jerona books are available in music stores, and my advice is that when you see one, buy it without hesitation.

The other direction is the Gordon Cherry CD, which includes most of the trombone and tuba parts as PDF's of the original parts from various orchestra libraries. The Cherry CD has lots of stuff, but it's all public-domain music. That means that nearly all of it was published before 1923. But that includes a big chunk of the standard repertoire. With these, you buy the CD and print the parts yourself as needed.
