Is it the tubby bore that you're looking for, or the challenge of six pistons?

the thing about a "true French" tuba is the bore size and the range, due to the 6 or 7 valves. I don't think even the biggest bored-C euph (tenor tuba, whatever) would come close to the nimbleness of a Ut tuba. Can you imagine playing the Bozza quintet on a 4 valved, non-compensating instrument pitched as a euph or a step higher?
