It's a new book by Victor Wooten. I just got it last night, and I'm halfway through it already. It's a great book for all musicians, especially bassists and drummers because it's from a bassist's point of view. But I would get it anyway. It's pretty amazing so far.

I think you missed the idea. "The Music Lesson" is not a technique book. The Arban's book is a technique book. The Arban's book has everything within those covers related to technique. "The Music Lesson" is a book that includes Vic's ideas on technique, plus nine other facets of music that are important, if we only divided music up into ten separate parts.

The funny thing is your first sentence made me think of a quote that would have been put into the book:

"It doesn't matter whether you like Victor or not, what matters is, could you learn something from this book?"

Actually, I just posted this last week. Might be something overlooked.

Victor is a great bass player, and it's not just because he has a crapload of chops. It's because he's also a great musician besides just being a bass player.

I finished the book over the weekend, and it was just great. The book had a cool tone throughout, and it seemed like he knew what the reader was going to think when he wrote something, so there were a few mind tricks in there. Thoroughly enjoyable, and a must read for musicians.

In my opinion, reading an Arban's book at leisure doesn't do much. It wouldn't even make a great movie.
