I am looking for a piece called Sonata by a Polish composer named Andrzej Krzanowski. It is for unaccompanied tuba, is about 14" induration, and is published by Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne.

I went to the website for them, and found the piece, but it is out of print.

I was wondering if anyone who has this piece in their repertoire could email or PM me.

is it really only 14 seconds??? haha...I'm assuming you meant 14 minutes right?? ( 14' )

Any library that has an interlibrary loan system can get it for you. The following places have the score:

Most any college library should be able to get it for you. Since it's out of print, it can be copied, (but since when does that stop anyone?*)

*To be honest, I include myself in that crowd, lawbreakers and all.

Let me see if I understand what you are saying...

You need a piece, research it on worldcat, and find it available at Faraway State University. So, you go to Local University's library to arrange an interlibrary loan. Faraway State refuses to send the work; so, according to you (from the time before when you were "taught" ILL...what does that mean?), FSU will copy it. I presume they would then send the copy to Local University; otherwise, why would they bother to make a copy?

I've been pretty deep into many university libraries and don't recall seeing very many (if any) photocopies of works available for use or check-out...pretty much everything I've seen there has been originals. Maybe the copies made by the lending library are always just given to whoever wanted them?

I haven't used ILL before, but have considered it for a few items in the past I could have used. Who pays for the copies made, if the lending library refuses to send a work? Why would a lending library refuse to send a work, but be willing to make a copy of it for transfer elsewhere? Are there any postal costs involved? Anybody have any specifics as to how ILL works?

A very interesting and diverse composer who was born on this date, April 9, in 1951, and died in October, 1990. He is best known for his accordion work but his many awards reflect a very broad talent.

Finally, you may want to try the libraries of the major Polish music schools such as the Music Academy of Warsaw, or the academies located in Krakow and Poznan. All three of these are have extensive libaries and potentially on-line library searches.

The times I've used ILL for music, the originals showed always showed up. Not always in a timely manner, though. Usually in a binder with dire warnings about copyright infringement.

I, of course, memorized all those pieces of music and didn't make copies.
