I am interested in the Yamaha/Bobo mouthpieces. But since I don't have a place where I can go try them side by side, can anyone tell me just how different the signature and replica mouthpieces are?

I see that both have the same dimensions and measurements. The Sig is plated in gold while the rep is straight silver. Has anyone played them side by side?

They're the same. The signature one just has some gold plating and a significantly bigger price tag.

I've played them side by side. Unless you really need to get rid of some money, get the replica.

Gold-plated Bobo mouthpiece is ridiculously expensive. What makes the replica model a "replica"? Is it manufactured somewhere else than the "real" model by not-so-good mouthpiece makers? I don´t know, but I doubt it...

Anyway, I currently use the mouthpiece in question, and I´m pretty happy with it. The problem with that mouthpiece is that it´s not very "free-blowing", I think due to rather narrow throat (of the mothpiece..!). It´s still fun to play, because it makes playing clearly with focused sound a bit easier. Of course the main factor in good playing can be located between the chair and the mouthpiece...

I have replicas of the solo and orchestral in great shape I would part with.Let me know if you're interested...

Last Summer I bought a Yamaha replica Bobo Solo mouthpiece. It was completely gold plated (not just the rim and cup) from www.mouthpieceexpress.com for $100.95 plus shipping. I'm quite pleased.

I noticed how that site has a "tuba finger buttons" section yet there are no products listed.

Get the replica - I can't justify the enormous pricetag of the original.

I have the Bobo TT mouthpiece, and it's great, but I seldon have cause to use it save for French tuba lit.

I also Have the Bobo Solo, and I really love hout it sounds and plays - light and easy, though a fairly small cup diameter. I find it throws the pitch off a little too much on my 621 F to use. Too bad...

Many Thanks, Gents. I very much appreciate the candor and I ordered the replica. I'm using a Laskey 30H right now and it sounds great, but my instrument is so very dark with so little overtone that I am looking to brighten and tighten things up a bit for the orchestra.
