Hey,
Does anyone have any experience with the Disney Collegiate All-Star Band? What are the auditions like? How did you prepare for the auditions? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I was in the 92 Orlando group. Be ready to show accuracy, style, a bit of 'cheese' and be able to sight read your ^%$^ off. My audition was with Jim Christianson, and he ran me trough the paces. I sight read everything from easy tuba solos to the Hummel trumpet concerto. Also, remember that to Disney, they want a tuba player that looks like a tuba player. Don't 'over' dress for the audition, but look 'All-American' ie. shave, brush your hair......

Yup,
I was in the Disney Grammy Collegiate Orchestra, not the band. But the audition was the same.
You have to be able to read. I didn't have to read the Hummel...sheesh...but I did have to read different styles. Also, bring in a couple of different styles with your prepared stuff. A flashy solo, a lyric aria of some kind. Maybe even something that shows you can play in a Jazz-like style. But then be prepared for the big black book of sightreading!
I can't say enough about the experience I had working at the Walt Disney World Resort. It was fun, it was exciting, and what was nice about the college ENTERTAINMENT program was you got your housing paid for, plus you got a salary. Not so with the regular Disney Collegiate program.
Anyway, you get to know all kinds of people from EVERYWHERE, and you get to play with some great musicians. They will bring in some heavy hitters for you to work with, and you will learn alot. However, remember, this is an outside gig with a sousaphone and a polyester uniform...in Florida...in the summer...marching all day long.
The ORCHESTRA had it pretty sweet. We still wore polyester, we still worked outside. But it was under a stage (still had a hot time with stage lights) but I sat my butt down on a chair, and we only played 4 shows, while the marching band played something like 6 or 8.
E-mail me if you have any specific questions.
