The Wick arrangement is much better than the standard Oxford Press arrangement, generally because it is not so overscored. As a soloist, you will have a much easier time being heard over the band with the Wick.

I'm sure we've all played a LOT of stuff that's been transposed for whatever reason (Holst Suite in F that was in Eb for one!).

I'll be more specific...Bob, have you played a version of the Holst First Suite in Eb for Military Band that was transposed to F? If so, I've never heard of it. Or have you played a version of the Second Suite which was transposed down to Eb? Is that what you meant?
